The Friends are working to build a new outdoor amphitheater at Blue Mound State Park. This space has been a wonderful gathering place for groups, weddings, and special events like Shakespeare in the Park and Music on the Mound. While it has provided some great memories, it is in need of upgrading.
This is a large project that will need to be completed in stages. This page will continue to be updated as progress on the amphitheater project continues. Some of the proposed upgrades include:
- Better accessibility for park guests
- Stage & seating upgrades
- Additional seating for up to 150 people
- Wifi access
Phase 1

In this phase, the Friends are working with local contractors and park staff to assess the feasibility and scale of the project. The Friends have also contacted other organizations that have completed similar projects and have an understanding of the financial obligation for a project of this size.
Phase 2
This multi-stage amphitheater project began in 2024 and continues to move forward. We have spent a significant amount of time in the planning and development stage this year. 2024 ended with surveying and site evaluations for a location on the east side of the mound, away from the existing location, near the East Tower. A number of plans have been drawn up and need finalizing.
The existing amphitheater will continue hosting the wildly popular Music on the Mound in 2026, as the new site will be under construction. The old amphitheater will be demolished once the new amphitheater’s construction is completed.
You can help!
Partial funding for the new amphitheater is provided by the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program Grant. The amphitheater touches so many people who visit Blue Mound State Park. Donations to Friends of Blue Mound State Park support improvement projects like this. Donations in any amount, from individuals or organizations, make a difference.
