The Friends of Blue Mound State Park are exploring the purchase of an all-terrain chair or electric mobility device to help visitors with limited mobility enjoy the park. On February 25, 2026, board members William Van Haren and Jim Reynolds, along with Park Superintendent Kevin Swenson, visited a neighbor to test a Terrain Hopper—one type of all-terrain mobility device. Research is ongoing to determine which device will best suit the park’s terrain and the needs of its visitors.

The Friends have been awarded the David & Joyce Weizenicker Fund for State Parks grant for this project. This $5,000 grant will help fund the purchase of an all-terrain device for use in Blue Mound State Park. The grant program, established through the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, supports projects in the Wisconsin State Park System that enhance accessibility for senior citizens.
